“Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.”
(Hebrews 10:23-25)
We have all had our bad days. We can get depressed for a variety of reasons, ranging from the death of a friend or family member, a failed test, financial difficulties, or even a crisis of confidence. If we sink too low, it can cause unhappiness and a sense of frustration with God. However, it is precisely during these challenging times that fellowship is so important. Spending time with other Christian women has a way of lifting us up. They remind us to keep our gaze fixed on God. God always provides us with a sense of hope during our difficulties and oftentimes it is through the comforting words of a friend. Meeting with others can aid in our recovery and provide us with the motivation to keep going.
Praying together is a crucial part of maintaining our spiritual growth. We, as women, assist one another in developing trust and encouraging one another to grow closer to God. Litty, a member of the ladies’ fellowship, says that being a part of this small group has given her ‘peace and joy’ to pray with a group of people who have similar experiences to her. ‘There are things that only other mother’s, wife’s or even immigrant women face, and I am glad to have a community that I can confide in and grow with.’ She also jokingly stated that when they are not praying together, they are also a vegetable garden interest group!
